Fashion Designer Khadijah Shah disagreed with the concept of 'Kashmir Hour' Movement
Khadijah Shah is one of the most prestigious names in the Fashion business at this moment. Noting PM Imran Khan's call to observe #KashmirHour, the nation turned out to remain in solidarity with Kashmir on Friday. And keeping in mind that many of famous celebrities were also seen supporting the movement, Khadijah had her differences:
According to her, this is not the way to make the world take notice of Kashmir issue. On this note, most of the people were disagreeing with her:Pakistan the only way to make your voice heard is through economic strength. No amount of standing will make the world take notice. Educate, Create and be indispensable- I’m sorry to burst the bubble— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 30, 2019
Pakistan already has Allahs blessings , they are his chosen and the gifted ones . Already they are very educated about Islam , no need for other Taalim . Your idea is bad , fascist and not on Allahs side . Take it back now !— Suresh Kumar (@KumarTrades) August 30, 2019
That would take a generation and in the next 25 years, J&K would be a Muslim minority state. No amount of education and social uplift would help them win freedom from Indian rule then.— Taimoor Ashraf (@taimoorashraf) August 30, 2019
And while many disagreed with her, some agreed with her:Economic strength? Educate? Great LONG TERM plans. Speaking up and raising ones voice is the immediate course of action that is required rn! We need to show our strength!— sabah_Y (@sabahANON) August 30, 2019
Truest words have been spoken. Thinking the world will pity us won't do anything.— Fawad (@fad70) August 30, 2019
On point!— FHK, MD (@drfudk) August 30, 2019
Education is of utmost importance.— Adnan Khan (@idikhan) August 30, 2019
Some assumed that it was symbolic:Thanks khadija at least u talked about ground realities— iramr (@iram_rana1) August 30, 2019
Pakistanis know this very well. That was symbolic. Sorry to burst your bubble too— Khadeeja Meharunnisa (@Khadeej38491725) August 30, 2019
Khadijah also returned and replied to some who were not supporting her opinion:This is just to show solidarity with Kashmiris. All Pakistanis stand with their kashmiri brothers. All know it's symbolic. India's economy isn't good either. Really in a bad state right now after 70 years.— Zargony (@Zargony2) August 30, 2019
Unfortunately your solidarity doesn’t help them unless you can actually affect change. And you cannot affect change unless you matter. That is reality. Why do you think #India or #Israel can commit genocide on a whole land and it’s people with impunity. #wakeup https://t.co/LOQegz6eRb— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 30, 2019
She then again tweeted that she remains in solidarity with Imran Khan but she simply doesn't support an hour being wasted on such kind of protests:Sure stand all you want to show solidarity, but please also show resolve in combating poverty, illiteracy and religious fanaticism in your own country, so that one day we don’t just stand but can also effectively dictate, protect and preserve the integrity of our lands and rights https://t.co/1DIWQj0Ovo— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 30, 2019
She then gave an answer to some who were questioning her:I stand in solidarity with @ImranKhanPTI, but I cannot bring myself to support an hour wasted by a nation already lagging behind aimlessly standing to register a protest. A nation already used to lazing and wasting time needs to be galvanised to become productive and effective!— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 30, 2019
Yes. Do you think doing this every Friday will keep the coverage going? It’s one news cycle. IK’s article in the NewYork times has way more impact. His upcoming speech in the UN will be significant and should be stellar. The whole country standing every Friday for half an hour .. https://t.co/HWD5wzhhgu— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 30, 2019
A protest is fundamentally a jolt to those causing the damage, a protest in Pakistan against India is causing no discomfort to India or the world. Aurat march directed at Pakistani mindsets is completely different- it’s happening in Pakistan to create awareness for Pakistan https://t.co/jmU6dMogN9— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 31, 2019
It would ideal if you did both, but I don’t see the latter happening and it’s long established that Pakistanis love standing but hate working- my point is that standing isn’t going to change the future of Kashmir. Today if we were an economic power India wouldn’t dare! https://t.co/jmU6dMogN9— khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 31, 2019
What do you guys think about Khadijah's Opinion?Governments across the world aren’t as altruistic as we’d like them to be. Countries have their own interests and they expend their time and resources in pursuing those interests. Not fighting humanitarian causes unfortunately. https://t.co/Y46U1ygC3z— Khadijah shah (@khadijah_shah) August 31, 2019
